We invite you to gather with us for a soup supper (5:30pm) followed by an Ash Wednesday Service (6:30pm).
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the church season of Lent. It serves to cause us to pause and reflect on our human mortality and life given us through the death and resurrection of Christ. The imposition of ashes (optional) is an opportunity to receive this promise in a tangible way: “you are dust, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19b)… “repent and believe the gospel.”
Whether you are new to this historic church practice or have practiced it in the past, you will discover in it a deep sense of rest in the finished work of Christ. Ash Wednesday is by nature centered on Christ and the cross. It reminds us of the futility of self-glorification. It teaches a way of quietness and rest found in the way of the cross. It faithfully prepares us for the 40 days of lent, Holy Week, and Easter!
